What Customers Say About Olympus SP-550UZ 7.1MP Digital Camera with Dual Image Stabilized 18x Optical Zoom:

This camera will do anything I ask of it and due to the SCN and GUIDE menus it is very easy to choose what setting to use. I often use it to photograph wildlife that won't let me get very close. I use a 1gb XD picture card in it and even after all this time I still have room for 108 more pictures on it. After much research I bought this camera over a year ago. I would recommend this camera (or perhaps a newer version) to anyone with a bit of photography experience. It is light-weight even considering the features it has. It is just what I wanted. My favorite thing about it is the 18 power zoom lens.
Now I'm searching for the housing. Olympus should give some kind of date on how long their products will be available. I would have gone with another camera if I had known. I bought this camera for my husband for underwater. Found some online but reviews are terrible for these online stores. He loves it. The camera is top of the line. The only problem I have now is that the underwater housing for this camera was been discontinued before I could buy one.
This camera came new in its box, great shape, having alot of fun with it.
About two weeks ago, I tried to use it and kept getting "Zoom Error" messages before it quickly shut itself off. Number one, I did not drop it.
Number two, they didn't have the courtesy to call or email but sent it snail mail. I have no doubt the lens rim might be a little scuffed as I used it professionally and did not always keep it in a case.
I bought this camera 11 months ago. They wanted $181.28 (almost 2/3 the original cost) to repair it.
The camera takes good pictures when it's working but if you are depending on Olympus making good the warranty, don't bother. From time to time, I've had to turn it off and re-power it to get rid of error messages.
I sent it to Olympus and they advised me the rim of the lens was scuffed, claiming I had dropped it and voided the warranty.
They refused to fix the problem and won't tell me what is wrong with the camera. After several calls the info finally came and I was able to ship it in.After 15 days I still never heard back from Olympus so I called them again and they told me it would cost another 180 dollars to fix it. They stated that the warranty was expired and I should have tried harder to get a hold of them. The Camera has broken 2 times already and customer support is horrible. Again they offered the reduce the rate but I do not want to put any more money into this camera, I already have paid over 600 dollars for this camera.Olympus customer service is horrible and they are not willing to work with the customer. The camera never was fixed correctly and I tried to email them several times to no avail. I have already paid for this camera in full 2 times.I sent it in to Olympus and they offered to fix it at a reduced rate of 110 dollars plus shipping. I finally got a hold of them by phone and they said they would send shipping info and it never came.
